And no, I am not talking about convicts.
I am talking about my wish list of Science Fiction/Fan Conventions!
Two weeks ago, I started a list of upcoming cons. Granted this was not an exhaustive list, just a few that are coming up soon.
This week, I want to tell you about my wish list. These are the cons that I have on my Vision board. I have every intention of visiting each of these in the next five years or so.
First up on my list is:
This yearly Geekfest right in my backyard of Atlanta is tops on my wish list. With such guests as Kevin J. Anderson, Tricia Helfer, Timothy Zahn, various guests from Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, StarGate, Firefly, Marvel Comics (Stan Lee usually puts in an appearance), and so much more. There’s gaming (table top and video), books, tv, movies, you name it they’ve got it.
And the yearly Parade can’t be beat. Where else can you see cosplay characters from your favorite movies, tv shows, anime, and games. You’re liable to see a Wookie walking next to Iron Man followed by Pikachu.
Held in Orlando Florida, MegaCon is one of the biggest in the Southeast. With huge guests such as Stan Lee, Ron Perlman, Allison Mack, James Marsters, the uber-hot John Barrowman and so many more, there’s no way I couldn’t add this to my wish list. They also have a tattoo pavilion! Of course they have the usual, gaming, anime, autographs, cosplay, exhibitors, panel discussions and so much fun!
Third on my list is
The Alabama Phoenix Festival. This con is held each year in May. Unfortunately, it’s usually held the same weekend as TimeGate. So of course, this means I’ll have to cheat on TimeGate one year. Just don’t tell them. APF is a more family friendly con than most. I may take my Godchildren one year.
Next up is:
This Con is the Daddy of the United States cons. Stan Lee makes an appearance almost every year as well as J. Michael Straczynski, Max Brooks and Neal Adams. This Con is fast becoming as big as San Diego Comic Con. Since this Con is in October, this will be my birthday present to me one year.
Last but not least on the list, is the Granddaddy of them all.
This is THE Con to attend. Even if you only get the opportunity to go once in your life, you have to go. This con has the largest programming of events in the county. Located in the massive San Diego Convention Center, this con has been going strong since 1970 and has evolved from a one day mini con to the giant pop culture convention we all know and love.
So, these are the Top 5 Cons on my wish list. Shoot me a comment and let me know what yours are.
Join me next week, when I welcome a guest blog by J.F. Owen, author of ‘Charra’s Promise’.
“While no one is expected to leap tall buildings in a single bound, our aspiring heroes will be tested on their courage, integrity, self-sacrifice, compassion and resourcefulness – the stuff of all true superheroes.” — Stan Lee
