2014 CON SEASON-PART 1

convention

It’s the time of year when Geeks, fanboys/fangirls and nerds alike go gaga and head off to the Cons.

For those of you who are new to Geekdom and do not know what a Con is, it is a Fan Conference thrown in several cities, put on by different organizations all over the world throughout the year.

To get you excited and ready for the season, I am giving you the rundown on some of the more popular Cons coming up this year. For some of them, you would need to get your memberships (tickets) 6 months to a year in advance. Others, you can probably still get memberships for up to a week before the event.

Here are 3 which make me drool and wish I could win the lottery so that I could hit every one of them.

All-Con

  • First up we have All-Con coming up March 13-16 in Dallas, TX. This Four day con, has Gaming, exhibits, workshops, game shows, panel discussions, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and even a burlesque show.  The total is $50.00 for the entire weekend, or $35.00 for day tickets. Tickets are on sale until March 11, so hurry and get yours.
  • supernova-logoNext is Supanova Pop Culture Expo Gold Coast 2014 in Oz (Australia) which hits the circuit this year with stops in Gold Coast, April 4-6, Melbourne April 11-13, Sydney June 13-15, Perth June 20-22, Adelaide Nov. 21-13 and Brisbane Nov. 28-30. These Cons showcase comic books, animation/cartoons, science fiction, movies, TV, gaming, books and the people who make all of these things worth us geeking out over. Some of the guests this year will be (see the website to find out which dates and locations) Michael Rooker from Walking Dead, Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca, y’all!), Lucy Lawless, Verne Troyer, Manu Bennett, Gigi Edgley, and dozens more.  If you plan on going, make sure you get your kit together for the Madman Cosplay Competition.
  • MainTitle2014If you are a Star Trek fan and live in the Southeast, then, TrekTrax Atlanta is for you.  This con will be hitting warp speed the weekend of April 25-27th. You can beam into the fun at the  Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Gallaria. TrekTrax is in its fourth year and is on my list to visit next year. This year, however, will see such guests as Arlene Martel, best known as Spock’s bride-to-be in the Star Trek episode “Amok Time”;  Felix Silla, or aka Twiki from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century; and musical guests Go, Robo, Go and Hyperspace. You still have time to get your tickets, so “Engage”.

Come back next week and I’ll clue you into two more upcoming cons right here in Atlanta, GA.

Until then,

“To the brave crew and passengers of the Kobayshi Maru…sucks to be you.”
