NANOWRIMO — ON THE STARTING LINE

As of writing this post, there are only 9 hours and 5 minutes left before the launch of NaNoWriMo 2011 . My Outline is mostly completed, and I believe I have all of the characters for this first novel. Even if I don’t complete the entire book this month, I do have enough planned so that I can get to the 50k word mark. I have a tentative ending that I’m still trying to build a bridge from where I am to where it will kick off.

Speaking of Kicking Off, I attended the Atlanta NaNoWriMo kick-off at the Varsity last night. I am more stoked than ever about starting this challenge. I met a few really cool Wrimos (writers participating in NaNoWriMo) and had a blast. I’m sitting here watching the clock and wishing that I had a time machine so I can get started.

Regardless of where I am in the process now, I am ready to start cranking out chapters at midnight. To complete my novel, I will need to do approximately 5,000 words a day. This new calculation is based on the fact that my novel will be longer than 50k words, and there are four Sundays which are my rest days. But most importantly, because I forgot about Thanksgiving. So there’s at least another day and a half with no writing.

But I will do this. I will achieve my goal. I will complete my first draft. And I hope all of you will send me little messages of encouragement on Facebook and Twitter @YIWashington to help keep me going. Don’t worry, I will keep posting on my blog. I want to document this adventure and this is the best vehicle for it.

I also had my first Blogtalk interview today. If you didn’t an opportunity to listen live, you can listen to the recording by clicking HERE.  I was extra crispy nervous until we got started. It was an amazing experience. I can’t wait to do it again. If you are a writer and want to have a great interview experience, then contact Quinn Barrett. She rocks!

So here’s to the start of the race, to endurance and completion. Until next Monday, keep believing, keep writing, keep dreaming.
