I’m BAAAAAAAAACK!! Did you miss me? Well, I missed writing to you. However, it is very important to get away from the writing from time to time and come back refreshed. So now that I’m recharged, re-focused and refreshed, I’m ready to hit the ground running.
When I asked myself what I wanted to talk to you about today, the first thing that came to my mind was the process that I am using to write my novels. If you remember, I told you in The Heat Is On, that I have a new WIP going. It was just a singular novel, until I started working on the back stories. Now, it’s a series which starts with a galactic war. To say that there is a lot to plot out would be a massive understatement. I was a tad overwhelmed, until I remembered my previous post about swallowing elephants (read it and you’ll see what I mean.) That advice works, not just for a writing career; but for writing novels or series as well.
First thing I had to do, was decide how many books make up the series and their tentative titles. With that done, I began creating each of the characters (most of which will be in at least three of the four books) and the plots and scenes for each one. I am weird, so I am starting with book 3 (or 4 haven’t decided the correct order yet) in the series, because it is the one that started it all.
So far for this book tentatively titled “INGRAM”, I have created most of the characters, the written plot outline, a few ships, planets,a space station, and a couple of really serious weapons. Now, utilizing the iWriter Pro writing software (currently priced for only $6.95, you can’t beat that!), I am plugging in the chapter outline, creating a few more characters and planets and coming up with what I hope are twists and turns which will keep you guessing and starving for more.
For the next few weeks, I will introduce you to some of the characters, planets and a bit of the Andromeda Galaxy as I see it. I want to take you on the journey as I bring them to life. Hopefully, by the time the first two books are completed, you will be chomping at the bit to read the entire series and will have brought many of your sci-fi friends on board as well.
For those of you who like getting a little advice from time to time, don’t worry. I won’t alienate you if you’re not a sci-fi fan. I will continue to give out little nuggets that I learn along the way, as well. After all, one of my goals as a writer is to help others along the path as well.
So until Friday, stay tuned and invite your friends!
